Startups @HSWT | Part 41: FeldSchau

In this interview series, HSWT startups that are part of the Food Startup Incubator Weihenstephan (FSIWS). The series presents the companies, their product ideas and how they work.

The startup FeldSchau combines the two disciplines of artificial intelligence (AI) and agriculture: FeldSchau uses AI to count ears of wheat on drone images taken from a bird's eye view. The project team is made up of professors, doctoral students and students from THI and HSWT .

HSWT: How did FeldSchau come into being?

FeldSchau emerged from a bachelor's thesis in the Artificial Intelligence course at Ingolstadt University of Technology . As part of the thesis, an attempt was made to count the number of wheat ears in test plots using remote sensing data that was analyzed by artificial intelligence. Due to the successful result, research in this area was intensified and a partner with in-depth agricultural expertise was also sought.

How does FeldSchau work?

FeldSchau uses artificial intelligence to analyze drone-based images of wheat ears. The relevant information obtained from these images is then returned to the customers.

How can I test FeldSchau’s offering?

on demo.feldschau.ai , which can then be used to upload test images for processing. The number of images is limited to 10. Images should show a clear, bird's-eye view of a wheat stand and must have a maximum size of 3000x3000 pixels. It is also important that the images have the lowest possible ground resolution (GSD), with a recommended value of 0.10 cm per pixel.
