“The hod wos, the ko wos and is a no guad!”* With his spent grain muesli, trained nutritionist Tim Englbrecht wants to offer a sustainable, wholesome and healthy breakfast. The GetFitbyTim concept specializes in the area of preventive health promotion with a focus on nutrition. With the aim of strengthening nutritional health-promoting factors in order to stay healthy and active for longer.
FSIWS: Tim, until 2018 you were a track and field athlete in the German youth national team. To what extent did that influence the founding of your company?
Even during my active time as a competitive athlete, the topic of nutrition was incredibly important to me. For breakfast there was always mixed muesli with fruit because it provides many of the important ingredients that an athlete needs. Back then, I found most of the muesli mixes quite boring and not really appealing in terms of taste. So I wanted to develop a ready-made muesli that also covers the most important nutrients and is sustainable at the same time - but also tastes good. I think
we managed that quite well. At least my athletes don't want to miss it anymore.
What does the term “draff” mean?
The spent grain is created as a byproduct during the brewing process. After mashing (editor's note: mixing water and grain as a step in beer production), the solid components are separated from the liquid components in the lauter tun. What remains here is the so-called spent grain, which contains many valuable nutrients for humans. Of course alcohol-free!
Why should you choose spent grain muesli?
There are many reasons. First of all, the issue of sustainability: After hundreds of test baking sessions, we managed to get the spent grain content in the muesli to over 25 percent. The main ingredient of our product is a side product that has not yet been used in the food industry - even though it is nutritionally very interesting for humans. The second reason is clearly the taste: We have developed a special roasting process when making muesli that enables the formation of many aromatic substances. It's not for nothing that our slogan is: “roasted, aromatic, tasty”.
