HSWT starts the construction of the “Creativity and Innovation Lab” with a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony. From summer 2024, the sustainable modular construction will offer creative spaces for research ideas and startup initiatives.
at the Staudengarten on the Weihenstephan campus “in which ideas are born,” emphasized Prof. Dr. Christoph Moning at the groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday for the new Creativity and Innovation Lab. This creative space is intended to promote ideas in the areas of research and start-ups “along the entire value chain,” said the HSWT Vice President, who was supporting the sick President Dr. Eric Veulliet represented. The Bavarian State Ministry for Science and Art is financing the modular construction with 3.3 million euros as part of the High-tech Agenda Bavaria (HTA) .
Knowledge transfer in flexible spaces
The HTA is an initiative of the Bavarian State Government to strengthen research and innovation and promote technology transfer in business and society. “As a 'green lighthouse', the Innovation and Creativity Lab will not only enrich the HSWT's research landscape, but will also make a central contribution to the implementation of Bavaria's high-tech agenda,” says Dr. Veulliet. The “HTA Open Innovation Lab” is intended to create a creative space in which scientists, students, business and society can work together to develop innovative approaches to research and startup creation with a focus on nutrition.
With the Food Startup Incubator Weihenstephan (FSIWS), HSWT supports aspiring founders with the necessary specialist knowledge and supports innovative product developments. In the future, it will only be a few meters from the FSIWS to the modular timber construction. Its two floors enable flexible room organization, starting on the ground floor with a creative room that can be converted for various purposes - for example as a co-working space or a representative room for events and lectures. The upper floor allows for a variety of uses thanks to movable partitions, from individual offices to seminar and meeting rooms.
Innovation boost for the city and district
Rainwater use in the building, electric charging stations in front of it and shading using vertical greenery are further building blocks on the way to a climate-friendly building of the future. District Administrator Helmut Petz emphasizes: “The flexibility and multifunctionality of HTA modular construction not only enables research projects, but also creates space for startups. This project helps to position our region as a pioneer in sustainable and climate-friendly construction." Freising's mayor Tobias Eschenbacher emphasizes: "The 'Creativity and Innovation Lab' is not only a benefit for the HSWT, but also for the entire region."
